“What is SPF and how does SPF rating work?”
SPF stands for sun protection factor. SELF DEFENCE has an SPF rating of 30 which offers you 30 x longer protection. An SPF rating enables you to work out your safe level of sun exposure. The following helps you to work out the protection SELF DEFENCE can offer:
FAIR SKIN: If you get sun burnt after just 15 minutes of unprotected sun exposure, SELF DEFENCE will offer a x 30 sun protection factor = 450minutes (7.5hours) of protection.
FAIR TO MEDIUM SKIN: If you get sun burnt after 25 minutes SELF DEFENCE will offer a x 30 sun protection factor = 750 minutes (12.5 hours) of protection
MEDIUM TO DARK SKIN COLOUR: If you get sun burnt after 40 minutes of unprotected sun exposure, SELF DEFENCE will offer a x 30 sun protection factor = 1,200 minutes (20 hours) of protection.
“What are UVA, UVB and UVC?”
UV stands for ‘ultra-violet’ light waves. These are divided into 3 categories according to their distance from the sun to the earth.
Both UVA and UVB both affect the skin. UVB can only reach the outer layers of the skin and is the main contributor in causing sunburn, or tanning, age spots and hyper-pigmentation.
UVA penetrates the skin more deeply, and is considered to cause deeper concerns such as wrinkling, leathering, photoaging.
UVC although could be extremely harmful is absorbed by the ozone layer and does not reach the earth’s surface it does therefore not affect the skin.
Does SELF DEFENCE need to be re-applied & is it waterproof? SELF DEFENCE is not waterproof and in hot conditions sweat could cause the product to be wiped away from the skin. It is therefore advisable to re-apply when needed.
Will SELF DEFENCE stop me from tanning? No, SELF DEFENCE is not considered a sun block. Only Sun Blocks will stop the tanning process. However it is worth remembering the higher the SPF the longer the protection not the stronger the protection.
SPA TIP:
It is always important to protect yourself from the harmful effects of the sun. The sun is at its strongest between 11am and 3pm. Stay in the shade during these hours when possible. Sunrays are harmful all year round not just in the summer months. Stay protected to avoid premature ageing.
