Quick Skin Care Routine

Cleansing

The first and important step in any skin care regime is CLEANSING. One of the worst things you can ever do to your skin is to go to bed with your makeup on.

What is on the skin will go into the skin overnight. If that is makeup and debris from the day, it will clog the pores and can cause eruptions. Of course, if it is fresh skin care, that will go to work overnight too.

You also need to cleanse the skin in the morning to remove dust and sebum and prepare it for your moisturiser.

Place some cleanser on a spatula or the palm of your hand - about the size of a 5p coin should be enough. Take the amount onto your fingertips and using upward strokes, massage this into the skin.

CLEANSERS are designed to flush out the pores, so once you have used the toner you can expect the cotton pad to look quite dirty if it has done its job properly. It is very important that you always use the correct movements on the face as this will go along way towards helping prevent lines.

Cleansing is an essential skin care step, even if you don't wear makeup.

Depending on the type of cleanser, remove it either with a dampened face-cloth, wash it off with warm water or take it off with a dampened cotton wool pad. Tissue is not a great idea particularly for sensitive skin, as it contains wood fibres that are harsh on the skin.

Top tip - in our spa facials, we always double cleanse (i.e. cleanse the skin x 2), and if you have been wearing makeup it is always a good idea to repeat this step to ensure the skin is thoroughly cleansed. Double cleansing ensures all impurities have been removed to avoid congested pores and spots.

Toning

TONING ESSENCE is an essential product for all skin types. We like our TONING ESSENCE, the tonic water without the alcohol! Toner is the second most important step in the cleansing process. Its use is vital if we want to ensure that all traces of cleanser are removed; it also shrinks and tightens the pores and helps restore the natural PH of your skin. It is amazing; we think that by using cleanser we've cleaned the skin thoroughly. Then when we use a toner, we notice that the cotton wool is removing even more debris and makeup.

Many people skip this product out of their skin routine... but would you miss the rinse cycle out of your washing machine? Of course you wouldn't -you would rinse the clothes to get rid of the washing powder! It's the same with cleanser and toner.

Cleanser is like the washing powder, and toner is like the rinse cycle! Use after cleansing and masks.

Treats for the skin

Using one or more of our MASKS will be a treat for the skin and depending on your skin type, will exfoliate, deep cleanse or hydrate your skin. In the spa, we sometimes use more than one mask on the face at the same time, to treat specific areas.

MASKS are designed to give the skin a boost and are best applied once or twice a week when you have the time to let them settle into the skin. The best time is when you are having a bath as the steamy atmosphere and having your feet slightly higher than your head are all added benefits.

After cleansing the skin, apply a layer all over the face, steering clear of the eyes and let it sink in over 20 minutes if you can. Remove with a dampened washcloth.

Top Tip - at the spa, we steam the face before applying masks to ensure the pores are open. You can do the same by pouring some boiling water into a bowl filled with some fresh herbs, then make a tent over your head to catch the steam. Don't get too near the water, or you'll burn your face, but after a minute your skin will be ready to receive the mask and will go to work twice as well.

After the mask, use your toner to remove every last trace of  mask before applying anything else to the skin!

Moisturising

Using a MOISTURISER is a vital step for all skin types but it's equally important to make sure we are using the right moisturiser to balance our skin type.

MOISTURISERS protect from inside out and outside in. The skin naturally produces moisture from inside and we need to seal that in with a moisturiser and prevent it from evaporating into the air.

We also need to provide the skin with a shield against the environment.

In addition, ingredient technology allows us to add extra special ingredients to perform special requirements that our skin needs.

Temple Spa moisturisers are legendary and are already creating quite a stir amongst the beauty press due to their unique ingredients and 'to die for' textures.

Use a moisturiser morning and night, after cleansing and toning; and again after masks.
