We are always on the hunt for new ways to enhance our beauty sleep and as music fans, the idea that listening to music could help you to fall asleep faster caught our attention. We all know the side effects of not clocking enough sleep, it’s not just your skin that becomes irritable but also your mood, however knowing this doesn’t always help when you’re tossing and turning at night unable to drift to sleep. The common cause for this is an active mind caused by stress and anxiety so the purpose of listening to music is to calm your mind and distract it from negative thoughts.
As you can imagine the type of music that you listen to is important and studies have found classical, jazz and easy listening pop to be most effective at helping you to drift into a soft slumber. If you want to test it for your yourself choose soothing songs particularly those with a slow rhythm of 60-80 BPM (you can find out the beats of your favourite songs here) as they have been shown to be most effective at helping you to fall asleep faster and to stay asleep.
We will be putting the theory to the test with Repose Suite, a collection of sublimely relaxing music that has been created specifically to relax, soothe and settle.
Let us know if you listen to music while you fall asleep, has it helped to improve the quality of your sleep?
