As we approach winter daylight savings and the evenings draw longer, the idea of an easy night in seems more appealing so why not make the most of that and ensure that you are getting the best night’s sleep and wake up refreshed and rejuvenated without having to reach for a coffee or concealer!

Create a bedtime routine

A bedtime routine may seem unnecessary for those over the age of 10 but taking a little time before you go to bed to unwind from a hectic day can help to calm and relax you and get you ready to go to sleep. Doing the same thing each night before you go to sleep also helps train your brain that it is now time to feel sleepy and while help you to drift off more easily.

What you include in your routine depends on what relaxes you but try to turn off all devices about 60 minutes before you go to bed. Dimming the lights can also help as bright lights signal to your brain that it’s time to be awake. Instead light a candle, such as a Light Up, Light Up and create the relaxing ambience of a luxury spa in your home while helping your brain to associate that scent with bedtime.

You can also use fragrance to relax your mind. The essential oils within fragrances not only have a calming effect but also leads your brain to associate that scent with sleep. Spritz your pillow lightly with Light-Hearted for a peaceful and comforting night’s sleep.

Make your bed a sanctuary

If your bedroom is not an inviting place that induces relaxation then it may be a difficult place to get a good night’s sleep. Paint your walls a calming shade and invest in soft and cosy bedding. Creating a calming atmosphere helps with your sleep pattern and ensures that your body starts to rest. Airs & Spaces, our spa aromatic diffuser, is a sophisticated fusion of spices, botanicals and essential oils which instil a sense of warmth and comfort.

Have wind down time

Within your bedtime routine you should have some wind down time as a stimulated mind will result in less sleep. A candlelit bath is great way to relax your mind and body and it also forces you to put your phone/laptop down. Treat yourself to a bath luxe such as Restitude, a creamy bubble bath that is abundant with aromatherapy essential oils including lavender, chamomile and frankincense and will leave you feeling dreamy and ready for sleep.

Unload your mind

If you find yourself tossing and turning at night while your mind races you might find it useful to take some time each night to clear your mind of mental clutter and things that you still have to think about by writing them down or making to-do lists for the next day. You may also need to practice not allowing these thoughts to re-enter your mind as you lie in bed, you may find that meditation helps with this process.
